Final Chapter

A Day Gone By

In the light Bromyn looked older
and strong enough to crush a boulder
yet he had the face and laughter of a child.
When finally they stood and stretched and yawned
he said,"It's time to go.", and smiled.

He quickly walked back into the stone
leaving Thimpin outside alone
standing in the warm sunlight of an April spring day.
Turning he raised his sword and winked and grinned
and slowly the stone slid closed hiding the doorway.

Twenty minutes later
Thimpin could smell frying taters
as he skipped down the trail from the top of the hill.
He wondered where Bromyn would sleep and eat and rest
then looked back to make sure the stones were for real.

As he trotted into the backyard,
no longer feeling worn out and tired,
he wondered again if he and Bromyn Barkthell were kin.
Jumping onto the porch and banging open the screen door he yelled
"Mom! Dad! You'll never guess where I have been!"

The End

In October, 1996 the Four Brothers were blasted and bull dozed away by a coal mining operation. Thimpin's family still live on the Rock Fork Branch of Ball Creek in Knott County, Kentucky. This story took place in early spring of 1962. Thimpin has had many discoveries and adventures since. He will turn 49 this summer.
