Dear Pirate By Quizmo LaGrande Dear Pirate, who knows only sea, Brave heart betrothed to ocean free, Treasure, blithe and distant land; How could I trust your love to stand? In bleak of fog, with slackened sail, A ship full loaded, waiting pale For trade wind swift, to fill the sheet; A hearty gale to end grey sleep. From lighthouse keep, through harbor mist I spy, ghost ship deemed ready list. Atop foremast, keen lad there be Apprentice pirate, bound for sea. O memories of life and youth, When buccaneers took you, and truth Be known, your heart found venture bold As women’s tears fed oceans gold. Though pine and mourn, cry and beg Harsh life you choose of swash instead Of love claimed tender once for me, Far less excite than sailor’s spree. Now from high in beacon’s hold Through haze, a desperate lass behold, Bowed on shore, hands in plight To hide fate’s tears, a losing fight. As once did I, too long ago, Plead your passion remain, although I felt your heart wane and wave Though treasure in my soul enslave. As once did I, bid sail away The lad I’d hope be mine today, Yet time and age, though rivals be Could pirate not, lost love from me. ~~***~~
