Perhaps, King David wrote his Psalms in much the same way. . .

One day, back in the spring of 1978, I was in the mood to write down a lot of my thoughts on life--spceifically, from a spiritual view of it--and this is what I was inspired to write down. . .

(1)

Nostalgia

Tradition

Sentimentality

Faith

and

Morality
:

Are they really a threat
to our ultra-progressive age?

Or

Do they contribute the stability

Needed

To prevent our destruction?

A kite
  Is only limited
By the length of its string
And by the one in charge
of tugging it back to earth
A kite
  Could be completely free
If it could only work itself free
From the one holding the string
A kite
Could not dance in the sky
If the one holding the string
Chose not to give it enough freedom
        In the form of string
  And would drift aimlessly
    And towards destruction
If it were completely let go of
We are the kites of God
  But our only strings
Are the desire to do His will
We can slip from His hold
  Anytime we please
    And wander aimlessly
For God only holds the kitestrings
  As tightly as we wish
Our kitestrings are long
And the universe is ours to explore
We have been put in charge
But it's nice to have God
  As our guide
Yet
  Some must make an attempt
    To fly absolutely alone
  Before crying out
"God, please take hold of the string again!
Be an active part of my life!"
And do you know what?
No matter how far you've drifted
God never has the least bit of trouble
      Grasping the string again!!!

(3)

Only
When I come out of myself
Do I leave enough space inside of me
For God to operate within me
    At His most efficient level.

(4)

Boredom
Is a result of only seeing one dimension of life
    Tiring of it
And being too lazy to refocus.

(5)

My God is neither
   Completely
     Santa Claus
       Nor
     A "Divine Spiritual Force"
       But
       Is
       The best of both.

(6)

The birthmark on my left hip
Looks so much like a star
That I know beyond a doubt
It was more than a coincidence:
A Divine Hand painted it there!!!

(7)

You can be surrounded
 By supposedly entertaining environment
  And be bored silly
        Or
You could appear idle
 To the average onlooker
  Yet feel delightfully entertained
Why?

(8)

God is!

I am!

You are!

It's great

To be

Alive!
