Embers of Love

A dying love is like kindling wood
Left upon an open fire
It slowly burns to ash.
And nothing remains
Only memories of a flaming past.
Keep the love alive
As long as it will last
With flames dancing about.
Throw a log on top
Let the sparks fly.
Stoke it with special care
And stay faithfully near.
Too soon, too soon
Destiny’s wind will blow.
The flames will slow
The fire will expire.
Nothing remains
But sweet memories of past desires
And warm embers of love.
