Shiver, glimmer, little light
Glistening and burning bright Be glad that you shall never know The tears of men on Earth below With our knowledge wrought from pain Never peace again shall reign For to know joy is a feeling true But one must know the sadness too I envy thee my little light For you know not of darkest night Never falsehoods, never lies Never see a fresh sunrise And now I do but pity thee For all in life you cannot see Never changing, never new All you ever are is you I wonder if you can feel love In your world of light above Can you paint? Do you hear? A song worth singing is always near You cannot cherish a memory Or swim beneath an emerald sea I know you now, the answer’s clear You are not light, you are a tear For life and joy with pain we pay And rise and live another day But little tear, do not cry Shine on those who pass you by.
