This is the synopsis and insights to "The Ring On My Finger"
Synopsis: This poem was written in the Pantoum format. (To learn more about poetry styles see "Poetry Formats and Styles" Insights: There is obviously one main element to this poem. The Ring. However, I purposely left out details about what type of ring it was. Is it a wedding ring? Engagement Ring? Promise Ring? This was done to allow the reader to draw his or her own conclusion. Also, I left open the idea whether this poem was about a death or breakup. Notice the lines “But love has been silenced, in midst of its prime” and “All that I am, has now been destroyed” These two lines may suggest that this person’s wife had died. However, the lines “Awakes to my failure, the pain I must bare” and “You live in my dreams, still love me in thought” may suggest that this is about a breakup. And finally the line “Although I don’t see it, still feeling it there” can lead the reader in either direction. As you can see, the method behind this poem is clearly about lost love and is represented by “The Ring” but it was written to entice readers to sway in the direction that most effects them. For those who relate to death, this will strike a familiar tone as it will with those who can relate to the breakup their love life. The Ring is made absent but the feeling of the ring is still present. This not only reflects the feelings and emotions left behind from the terrible ordeal that caused the heartache but also the fact that this man still loves her and the love is still present in his heart.
