The rain pounds the rooftop in heavy torrents
Searching for safe refuge it slides down the ashy panes and falls to the earth Caught up in an oasis of murky soil The sponge-like roots of the world absorb the pools, stripping them of identity And the grass grows greener in the All-American backyard.
