The Pretender

I sit and watch
The Pretender.

She smiles and nods
At all the right times
And calmly
Takes the blame

I sit and watch
The Pretender
Who happens to look like me.

Wait.
Is it me?
I know
One of us is growing irate
Is it me or she?

The rage is building,
Crushing,
And I know its mine.
But its far away
In another time-
The Pretender has stolen it,
Hidden it as her own.

That isn't me
I cry
Give me my anger
Pain and Joy.
I want it!
It's mine!

Knowing that she will
Never be caught-
This emotionless thief,
Stealer of emotions-
I scream.

The Pretender's smile falters.
She excuses herself.

Picking up her purse
The Pretender rushes
Into the stall.

Taking out her razor
She runs it over her leg.

Looking at the stream
Of blood
I breathe a sigh
Of relief,
Of awe.

Look at the beautiful
Patterns
Gliding into a single
Enchanting drop.

I catch my breath
In awe
As that beautiful drop
And more fall,
Carrying with them
The Pretender.
