THE WORD
Read it and stay in the Word -

One of the priceless possessions
That I have from my family
Is the old family Bible
Passed down through the years to me.

I picked it up early one morning
To see what message was there;
There in my father's handwriting
Were the names written with care.

He listed each of the children
And the date that each one was born,
When his handwriting started to falter
My mother took up writing, forlorn.

For as she wrote on the pages
The deaths of our family -
It became smudged with teardrops
My mother meant so much to me.

There between the covers, where
My parents had written so well
Were the words of the Bible
I wondered what they would tell.

I read through the pages
Well-worn they were, I could see;
Some passages were underlined
As if they were meant for me.

I found comfort in those pages
For I know that He cares for me,
And that He is with me always;
That old Bible is - Heavenly!
