I created this one night while fustrated about my inability to write, and why I was spending so much time trying anyways. It only took fifteen minutes but by the end I had a better understanding of what I was trying to do. If you read it please let me know what you think.
Words
By
Steve Van Bakel
words
the syllabic building blocks of creativity
putting a few of these blocks together
one can create anything within the spectrum of their imagination
add a few more delicately chosen words
and suddenly you've given your creation life
combine flowing strings of words
and now your creation has the ability to think, feel, and express emotions
but it's not until these words draw an emotional response from the reader
that the builder becomes an artist
each word added is a brush stroke on the canvas
every elaborate scene is the perfectly posed model
where other artists may wait days for perfect conditions
a writer always has the ideal lighting
for that is how it was created
words
put together in a captivating fashion
have the ability to offer an escape to its readers
whether it be a half hour escape from that noisy rush hour bus
or escaping half the day away
without leaving the comfort and security of your bedroom
the artist is able to draw the reader into his imagination
taking them to a beautiful distant land of elves and fairies
or into the dark mind of a psychopathic killer
but do not fear
for when you return
you will still be in the safety of your own life
words
are easy to find
look about you
they're everywhere
and they're free
pick one from that road sign
and one from that cereal box
save these in that empty drawer in the recesses of your mind
once the drawer is full
and words are falling out
begin to put them to good use
use them as your building blocks
build and build and keep building
because within us all
an artist is hidden
