Wouldn't you like them all to come true?

WISHES

On a summer’s eve,
wouldn't you like to sit upon a grassy hill
with no shoes upon your feet,
and feel the cool moisture beneath.
Then look down at the beautiful scene below
and raise your eyes to gaze
at the shining stars?

Wouldn’t you like to have a gentle breeze
play with your hair
and tug at your clothes
while moist air caresses your face?
Your nostrils pick up the scent of lilacs somewhere.
Your ears hear the sound of a whistling bird
while you watch the dawn of a newborn day.

And as you descend from that sloping hill
you feel the warmth of the sun’s rays.
The love comes over you.
Your arms stretch out to hug the earth.
You are at peace with yourself and all mankind.
This sense of tranquility swells within you.
You want to share it with all that you see.

But then you step down to reality.
Your feet touch the solid ground, and the pain returns.
All your wishes fade away.
Wouldn’t you like them all to come true?
‘Though it’s difficult to have a positive view,
just keep your faith from day to day
and all those wishes will be granted to you.
