Tonight
for a new friend who needed someone

Tonight your eyes held stories,
dark and wet with
fervid, unexpected tears.
Echoing my turmoil,
though your journey
is unique.

I do not smile at your pain-
I cherish the chance
to share it.
Two can shoulder a burden
that will crush one.

Tonight your eyes held questions,
fierce with anguish,
aching with fear,
reaching for what sparse
solace I possessed.
Only one answer could I provide.

A week is enough to bare souls-
leaves ample time
to heat the wax of connection
and seal hearts.
Friends are not forged
by time, but by emotion.

Tonight your eyes held karma,
allowing the universe
to weave its threads.
Trusting me to understand
though you could have
closed the door.

On my word,
here starts a friendship.
Our bond is strange, yet strong.
My hand I'll offer in assistance,
my arms in compassion,
my voice to remind you-
you need not doubt that you are special.
I saw that in your eyes tonight.
