Why am I
the one he chose
to be his love
to be his rose
to be his breath
of sweet spring air
to be his angel
pure and fair
to be his drop
of falling rain
to be the one
to ease his pain
to be his sunshine
and delight
to be the one
he holds at night,
when I know
that I did not earn
this love
that I cannot return?
