"Man"
My entry to the "Man's Challenge Contest

I am the mist that hovers over battlefields of lore
where countless men have fought and died
I am the agony eating through your soul
that has never had the courage to be cried

I am captain of the ship sailing to sea
seeking mystery, adventure and joy
I am the weary traveler along your road
as lost as can be a little boy

I am a statue of granite upon a mountain's high
defending the homeland below
I am a punching bag made of cotton and foam
without a single victory to show

I am an eagle soaring upon the bravest of winds
touching heaven itself
I am a useless trinket without value
forgotton on the bottom shelf

I am the epitome of strength, power and knowledge
a glimmering example to all
I am a drunken coward beyond redemption
awaiting my perilless fall

I am everything, and I am nothing
I am heaven's child and demon's brood
I maintain control and act in accordance
I scream to the night and become unglued

I am man; the legacy and phallacy
I feel what I must and deny what I can
but the one thing I can never be
Is that who I truly am
