Without the stars,
that sky might find the
end of the world tonight.
Weeping for the sins
of the earth,
its beauty outlasts
the ugly mark of
so many deaths.
We ask ourselves,
where was God
when the terrorists hit?
I saw them in the
thunder and lightning
of a thunderstorm
this Fourth of July.
I looked no further
than flags
waving in silence
and in the heat of
my anger there was
a place for my tears.
I wanted to raise
my fist
to the misunderstandings,
the hatred,
feel the sad unfortunate
emptiness that
all of us feel for a
country with such a
proud name as America.
So America, let your
banner rule us once
again.
May our patriotism
open the wound,
let the love heal it.
