A very good friend of mine once said..

“Darling, sweet honey, my favorite child,
I want you to come here and sit for awhile,
Speak to me ideas and dreams of your splendor.
Tell me your weakness; what makes your heart tender?”

I sat by the fire with guitar to chat,
I wanted to say, Why, you know all of that.
My friend, you have been here, beginning to end,
But decided to humor as the ear was in lend.

“I’ve long wished for tall sails and winds which to blow
Them mighty and steady o’er seas to far shores.
To glide with the dolphin in seas of pure green,
Through blues of tomorrow, through sunshine and gleam.

“I’d like to move mountains, arrange them just so,
In a somewhat staccato, amusing uproar.
When one climbs o’er the top, beholding to find
Is a surprising concurrence of peace in mankind.

“To have feathers and wings,” I mused as I played,
"And soar high above all those mountains and stray
Far beyond life’s wrought iron, the bars and confine
And simply seek sunshine, and true peace of mind.”

My friend gazed at the fire, “How lovely you strum.
It seems you know ways I’ve hardly begun
To vision, but sitting enjoying your muse,
I’m at once understanding, at once most confused.

“I thought you were happy, but you seem to want more,
Far beyond that responsible every-day door.
More than a house, a chore and a yard
Forgive me, my dear, but your longing is hard.”

I thought I had known this friend for some time;
Should I begin to explain that in heart these are mine?
I’ve wings and the power to glide and to soar
Fly with the eagle in currents of more.

In my heart I move mountains, and coast ebbing tide,
In my heart I have riches that money can’t buy,
The blues and the greens, the pinks and the hues
Of sunsets and rainbows and good friends, like you.
