HOTEL PARKING LOT

I am
Looking out at a hotel
Parking lot and I am
Wondering how long it is going to take you
To look up at the window
And catch my eye

The sky is gray and the grass is brilliant green
A contrast, unexpected
Each making the other
More of what they are

I am
Staring out at the hard black of the
Asphalt and I am
Watching you and counting moments
You hand a tip to a man in a burgundy suit
And walk inside the sliding double doors
Without glancing up
To see the window’s reflection
Of eyes in a gray sky
