THE THINGS WE CANNOT CHANGE
For those who choose to die -

There are some things we cannot change;
Some things we will never know why -
The ones we love take that path
And choose - yes, choose to die.

Did life get too unbearable
That they just could take no more?
Did they forget the love we had
And walk alone to death's door?

Did they not offer one last goodbye
Before they took that way to go?
Were they just gone in a heartbeat
To leave us - with no way to know?

Did they think that we would suffer
When we heard the news they died?
Did they know that forever after
We would remember their suicide?

There are some things we cannot change;
It doesn't make it any easier to know
That when we brought them to this world
We might someday have to see them go.

No, their only thoughts are ending
Their own suffering and pain;
If they had only talked to us
Perhaps they would have thought again.

We must pick up the pieces
And a funeral arrange -
We who must go on living know
The things we cannot change.
