The Procrastination Of Creation

An Old Indian Legend (Made up by an old Indian!)

Father Sky asked Mother Earth one day
“Mother Earth, it’s time for creation
What do you say?”
Mother Earth yawned then replied,
“If I said I was ready
I would have lied,
So let’s just put it all off, if we might
I’m really too tired
And have a headache tonight.”
Father Sky turned away
And shook his head
But not another word
About creation was said
He turned off the sun
And went alone to bed

Soon he was back, asking again
“Mother Earth, have you
Decided just when
Would be the right time
For creation to begin?”
She gave him a wink
And a kiss on the cheek
“Don’t bother me now,
Come back in a week.”
Father Sky turned away
And just shook his head
Turned on the stars
And went alone to bed

The next time he asked
Was a warm night in June
The stars were singing
A sweet love song tune
He turned on the moon
And waited for his chance
To persuade Mother Earth
It was time for romance
He sneaked up behind her
And nuzzled her neck,
Asked, “How about tonight?”
She said, “Why not, what the heck!”
And that is why
Each warm moonlight night
All of creation
Seems to be right!
