The Fire
being burned leads to walls and hurt

I was burned the first time
And you were burned the last
But the heartache I sustained
Was all within the past

And yours, it came as a surprise
Because after all, you see
The heartache you have just received
Was caused in short, by me

I never meant to hurt you
Just make you see the light
I truly, madly cared for you
But forever was not in sight

We've both been here a few times
Last time I swore was the end
But I never knew how strong you felt
Until you said your heart won't mend

Please don't think me insensitive
But I had to let it go
I held back for fear of getting hurt
While you were caught in love's undertow

And I'm sorry your heart's hurting
I never wanted to cause you pain
But you went and fell in love with me
After I told love never again
