ONE MORE STEP Dedicated to my sister Iris Carole The ravages of time had taken A very heavy toll on her health But she had inner courage And a spirit filled with wealth. She trusted in her God to help Her keep the will to live; And she would never just give up She had so much love to give! Just one more step! she used to say As the pain coursed through her leg - She'd move ever so slowly then But she never ever paused to beg. She took the world in stride, you see, For her love and faith were strong, She sang a hymn as we drove home Knowing she did not have too long. The cancer finally took her But I can hear her saying still: Just one more step! You'll make it! And I'm sure now that I will. For she left behind a legacy Of all that she held dear; The people that she cherished Still have her spirit here. So when things go from bad to worse, And it's hard to keep going on - Remember Just one more step! And your heartache will be gone!
