Sleepless Night
I lock my thoughts in an imaginary box

Sleepless Night

I lay awake in this darkened room
Hoping soon I will fall asleep.
I say my prayers; I even count sheep
But nothing helps to lull me to sleep.

So I capture my thoughts
Of the previous day
And lock them up in an imaginary box
That I use only in this small way.

I toss and turn upon my bed
My empty head rubs on my soft pillow
And all through this quiet night
I still find no peaceful sleep.

I might as well open the lock
To the imaginary box
And free my thoughts to enter my head
No use to try to sleep at all tonight.

Now I'm ready as I stay awake
To greet the new morning
Just as soon as the new day
Awakens from its restful sleep.
