It's Okay To Ask For Help!!
9/4/02 - 18 years old

I can have my whole article be just the title, but somehow, I don't think that would work very well, so I'll continue... There's more I want to say anyway... but, I'll always get back to the fact that it's okay to ask for help.
Asking for help is a sign of strength. It shows that you respect yourself enough and trust others enough to do so. By doing so, you allow for forward movement and improvement in your life. By refusing to ask for help, you close yourself off to opportunities to grow, heal, and see things from a different perspective.
Everybody goes through different things, has different needs, and seeks help in different ways. AND THAT IS OKAY! For some things, a hug, handshake or a caring ear is all the support one needs. Sometimes that isn't enough, though. Counseling and group therapy are often times beneficial, as is medication. And NONE of it is a sign of weakness. It's all support; it's all help; it's all a sign of STRENGTH!
We don't always recieve the support we need when we first go out and look for it. This can be very frustrating. I've had recent experience with this myself, trying to find a support group. But, just know not to give up - the support that will fit you is out there! Sometimes it takes longer than others and it's okay to ask for help in finding the support that's right for you. Sometimes one will attend a support group, see a therapist, or try a medication that just DOESN'T WORK OUT. It doesn't mean that all support groups, therapy, or medication will not work. It just means that the right match for that individual wasn't yet found! Keep trying! As the saying goes, "Patience is a virtue."

I'll leave you with words from Judy Blume:
My only advice is to stay aware, listen carefully and yell for help if you need it.
