MASKS
Written for Stormy Lady's contest!

The masks we wear when we deceive
Seen now through tired eyes,
A burden carried much too long
Listening to each others lies.

A heart now bleeding, deep remorse
For all that might have been;
Had we not put on those masks
And tried with lies to win.

The burden thrown aside,
The masks now thrown away;
A broken heart, or maybe two,
Now lies along the way.
