The Dancer

To HawaiianPeach for all the help she gives me to bring meaning from my words

He'd always dreamed of dancing,
moving 'round the floor
And that, he decided,
Was what this night was for.

So he got out the shoes
That he'd laboured all his love on.
They were black and shiny
And the height of modern fashion.

As he put his suit on,
Man this guy felt cool.
One thing's for sure,
This boy would be no fool.

It was Saturday night
And he'd just gotten paid
Now it must be the time
For his dreams to come unchained.

He walked onto the dance room floor,
looking all around.
He moved with precision.
Smooth as silk I'll be bound

Then as he danced
He moved in pace
Till, quite by chance
He saw her face.

She was full of laughter,
Sitting on the side.
Man, was she lovely.
He looked at her and sighed.

She had the kind of grace
that comes from within.
Oh how he longed to hold her...
Let the real dance begin.

Her hair was soft and flowing,
Her shoulders softer still;
The sight of her, electric.
It gave him such a thrill.

Then as he moved to greet her,
He felt a sudden thud;
His nose pressed on a window pane
And caused a tear to bud.

For you see this little dancer
Danced only in his mind
Though he really wanted to,
The strengh he couldn't find.

So he used to spend his time
Pressed against the pane,
Looking far and longing
Till only dreams remained.

So he sat and wondered,
Waiting there, and watching:
Would she ever be his
The girl with the silk stockings?
