DARKNESS It was a dark and stormy night When I sat down to write; The lights flickered but still I have to write, I know I will Probably not please everyone Here on earth or under the sun; But it doesn't matter much to me, I just like to write, you see. Not a star in my sky tonight The winds are cold, I shiver quite Uncontrollably as I look in To see my mailbox full - again. Now I wonder sometimes just why You let a star or two slip by; But say "well done" or a "good write" Then leave me in the dark tonight. There is no mention of a cure To make my writing doubly pure! What can I do, but second guess Why my stars are getting less.. Encouragement is not found, I throw my poor mouse down! Give up the ghosts that try To inspire me, I wonder why! I make a sad determination: My writing skills may face damnation! So lights out for me for awhile Darkness comes, I cannot smile.
