Well...it's almost midnight here. Cinderella's coach turns back into a pumpkin soon and I must write. No glass slipper to leave behind, only more words after another day...
Quiet on the homefront except for the voices in my head.
Words for the sake of words, daydreams I walk through in my mind.
In this daydream he is with me...
A horse...I suddenly feel the urge to find a horse and a field. I was 16 the last time I rode one and it is such a strong feeling now to find that kind of freedom for a day.
Catch me if you can !!
I hear him laughing behind me. He thinks he is letting me win but I am letting him get close enough to catch me, then off I go again. Now he knows he has to hurry to catch me.
Hey...where did he go?
Shoot !! How did he get ahead of of me.
Not fair. He is slowing his horse along the path in front of me and now I have to reign mine in.
He took a shortcut...that can't be in the rule book...oh...to hell with the rules.
We are at our place. The nest I shared with him a while back. A place where innocence returns when with the right person.
The last time we were here I was sitting against a tree...he laid his head in my lap and my hand gently combed through his hair, touching the side of his face, loving the feel of him beneath my fingers.
He closed his eyes and fell asleep. He had needed rest for so long and there was nowhere we had to go, no one who needed either of us. As he slept, I watched over him. Clouds floated overhead through the trees that hid us from the world.
He didn't see me as I closed my eyes and got lost in feeling the weight of his head in my lap. It was such a comfort having him to myself for that short period of time. Nothing existed to put pressure on either of us. We earned that time.
For years we had been running to please others and running away from what might please us. Yes, that was our time.
I looked at his face, calm and serene in sleep. A sleep deep enough to refresh the soul as well as the body. While he rested I kept watch.
As he slept I whispered a story of two lovers, a story similar to ours.
".......and the lovers lay wrapped around each other. Soft green grass molded to the shape of passion momentarily spent, a fragrant nest cradling the two. How could the world be so still and silent when so much had transpired. The stars were still where they were when the lovers had looked upon them from different parts of the world. As much as they had known their's would be a union like no other, even they were surprised. Tenderly she laid her hand next to where her face rested, listening to and feeling his heart beating in time with hers. Two hearts beating as one. Yes, she was where she belonged. His hand slid down and pulled her closer. No need to try to understand why soul had touched soul, it was enough that they had. Yes, joined in a love far beyond comprehension by "normal" people. Together...forever..."
The clock is striking midnight now and I must go. My ballgown has already turned into a flannel night shirt and my dancing shoes are now fuzzy pink bunny slippers.
Cinderella left a few moments ago hoping her prince will follow. And me? I know that in the night my knight will find me...
