Northward by starlight -
Electric sparks out of forgotten legends Blazing across eternities of white, Endless fields of slippery white, Where flurries once raged But now only their shadow remains. Careful footsteps, Hoping not to slip and slide, Eyes more focused on the horizon Than the next stone, the next ice patch. Slow blur of polar movement, A mother and her cub, Far off blots against the stars, The deep, magestic stars Flickering in and out, In and out in the flash of an eyelash. Eastward in sun's glare - Rising, spinning, floating orb Washing out the old remembered blue Into a vast colorless stretch, Almost yellow against the orange, The red, the bronze that eats up half the sky. Shifting footsteps, Moving across sand and gold-brass reflection, Trying to keep atop each new dune And keep eyes where they can see. Each blur of motion darts away again, Scaley skin and camouflage, Leaving tracks in the hot sand, The crisp white-gold-hot reflective sand Blaring back at the brightness of a sun That blinds wandering eyes. Southward to cool clouds - Fluffy white sailboats on a blue sea, A tranquil sea, unmoving, relaxing, Beautiful in its peace and ease, With bright contrasting Q-tip heads Creating shade and calm and rest. Easy footsteps, Sliding through tall grass and green trees, Looking with a smile to their tops And not at the brush at their roots. The flicker of a feather And the echo of birds chittering back and forth As they take off into the clouds, Floating, hovering, shifting, motionless, White balls of soft cusioned safety For weary, long-traveled feet. Westward toward orange - The orange, pink, and purple cast clouds That surround the setting sun, A sun sinking, alone, away from gray Fading into black further along, Sinking toward its well-earned slumber. Weary footsteps, Through a world filled with old green And new gold, red, burgandy floorcovering, Though eyes travel upward to the source. A distant, dissonant whinny And a hairy tail switching over smooth brown skin And the magnificant creature darts into the distance, Which glistens more purple now, Fading into midnight blue and velvet black, As night and rest thankfully approaches. Northward by starlight - Miniature lights that illumiate the quest for something I haven't seen before.
