It's Hard to Say I Love You
To my daughters Mykenna & Kalyssa
Written by Red

You asked what I thought.
You listened to what I said.
You cared about what I felt.
It's hard to say I love you.

You've heard about my trials.
I've shown you what's inside.
You see what I fear to show.
It's hard to say I love you.

Only you would understand,
You who has been inside.
Only you could comprehend.
I want to say I love you.

My world was once dark.
Few lights were allowed in.
You've brightened up my world.
For that, I thank you.

I love your smile.
I love your laugh.
I love you warped
Sense of humor.

I love your way
Of brightening my day.
You've opened me
To a world that's new.

I apologize for my lack of words.
I'm learning to accept your help.
I relish your warm touch.
I live for the feel of your hand.

This iciness I have lived with,
Has left a bitter brand.
You bring a burning to my soul,
Which disallows the ice to stand.

The night is not the same now.
Its darkness no longer chills me.
The stars shall shine on us.
The moon's light now warms me.

I had thought honesty would break the soul.
You've shown me I was wrong.
Now I am me, no masks, no walls.
There is hope where once there was none.

May our lives be long
May we always be together.
May fate lead the way.
Now is forever.

May we live for this moment.
May this moment be enough.
A life-time is too short.
Thank you for loving me.

Let the past not get in our way.
Let us face our obstacles together.
Let us cherish every day.
Let the web come to gather.

For you, I will brave roads unbroken,
I will ride the unfettered storm.
For you, I will fight the battles
And discover worlds to come.

So here is one that I've not touched,
Though some before me have.
I shall touch this world you offer me.
I shall settle upon this ground.

Let me taste its wind, let me drink its water.
Let me revel in its feel.
One step, then two, then over the cliff,
Let me try this world anew.

I love you.
