I wrote this for my Short Story Writing Class a few years back.

Dimera hated being a vampire. He cared about people, most particularly the lovely Stephanie. She was not a vampire but the secretary he had hired in London, and he treasured her dearly.

The carriage clicked over the cobblestone roads as Dimera and Stephanie sat together in the carriage. Dimera wanted to travel in a carriage instead of a taxi. He liked riding in a carriage. He always felt more comfortable and free riding in a carriage.

Stephanie smiled sweetly as she asked: "Are you nervous about meeting Dr. LaSallle?"

Dimera patted the beautiful blonde's hand. "He has a cure for vampirism. We can have a normal life together. This man is the answer to my prayers, if I was allowed to pray."

Stephanie cuddled up to Dimera. She remembered when he had hired her as a secretary, claiming to be a writer and he needed her to take notes for his latest book he was working on. Stephanie couldn't understand why she never saw him in the daylight hours. Dimera claimed he wasn't home in the daylight hours because he was out looking information for his book. One day, Stephanie found his casket in the basement and when she opened it, she found Dimera asleep in it!

Dimera awoke and he was angry! It wasn't night but being in the dark basement, he was protected from the light. Dimera grabbed Stephanie by the throat! She stifled a scream!

"I could kill you! I should! You are my secretary and your spying has cost you your life!"

Stephanie started to cry. She looked into Dimera's steel-gray eyes and saw they were cold but she also saw sadness in them, too. Dimera looked into Stephanie's blue eyes and realized how beautiful she was. She had a sweet smile and he realized he loved her as she was crying. Dimera knew she loved him, too. "Oh, Dimera, I'm so sorry. I was nosey but I know you are a vampire. I want to help you. I love you" she said in a whisper. "I wouldn't let anyone hurt you."

Dimera took his hands off Stephanie's throat. "Stephanie, I'm sorry. I have never wanted to be a vampire. My father gave to a female vampire, Andrella, to raise after my mother's death. I was ten years old and the creature turned me into a vampire when I was sixteen years of age. The creature, well, female vampire, was like a mother to me. I want a normal life and after meeting you, it is more important then ever. Stephanie, I love you, too. I didn't really want to kill you. You are too sweet and beautiful. Please forgive me." Dimera embraced her and she accepted his embrace. They shared a passionate kiss.

The carriage hit a bump and bought Stephanie back to reality. Stephanie had found Dr. LaSalle over the internet while she was researching vampires. Dr. LaSalle claimed he could cure vampirism. While Dimera and Stephanie were still in London, England, old vampire enemies were threatening Dimera because he wanted to be cured of his vampirism. So, Dimera left with Stephanie to go to Paris, France.

The carriage came to a stop and the driver informed them they had arrived at the home of Dr. Andre LaSalle. The estate was huge, three stories, chateau style and quite a beautiful structure. Dimera pulled his long, black hair away from his face and the handsome vampire and beautiful woman descended from the carriage.

Dimera used the lion head knocker to knock on the door and an elderly woman, with fading brown hair, answered the door. Dimera smiled. "I'm Dimera Devall and this is Stephanie McGowan. We are here to see Dr. LaSalle."

The maid let them in. "This way, Sir." She lead them to a big drawing room and Dr. LaSalle stood and shook hands wih the three hundred year old vampire and twenty year old woman. Dimera and Stephanie sat down as Dimera told Dr. LaSalle about the woes of being a vampire. Dimera no longer feasted on human necks unless provoked. He drank the blood of defrosted meat. The vampire urge was still there. Dimera felt like he was going crazy trying to deal with this. "Dr. LaSalle, there is nothing cool about being a vampire. I hate it. I want to be a mortal being."

Dr. LaSalle smiled. "Of course, you do. I believe I can help you. I am a specialist of rare blood diseases. Your case will be a challenge but it isn't impossible."

Dr. LaSalle took samples of Dimera's blood. Dimera was so happy to have found Dr. LaSalle. He and Stephanie could lead a normal life. Dimera and Stephanie talked all night and stayed in one of the guest rooms in the doctor's mansion. Stephanie couldn't find her hair brush and she went back to the drawing room to find it. Stupid! She had been playing with her hair brush nervously when she Dr. LaSalle was talking to Dimera and telling him about his options for his vampire cure. She had dropped it earlier and forgotten about it unti now. Stephanie looked around the room and to her surprise, she found Dr. LaSalle's notes about the vampire cure.Stephanie picked them up so she could take them back to the good doctor. Stephanie read the notes and exclaimed "Oh, no! A zombie! This can't be!" Dr. LaSalle's notes stated that if the vampire cure didn't work, Dimera could be a zombie!

Stephanie went back to the room she and Dimera were sharing and showed him the notes. Dimera's eyes turned red and he yelled out"No! I will stop this quack! I will be noone's lab rat!"

Dimera ran out of the room yelling: "Andre LaSalle! Show yourself now!" Dimera was clutching the notes in his hands with Stephanie behind him, trembling like a leaf, begging Dimera to calm down.

Dr. LaSalle came out of his lab, asking: "Dimera, what is the meaning of this? Please lower your voice."

Dimera threw the crumpled up papers at Dr. LaSalle. Dr. LaSalle looked at the papers and ran his hand through his hair. "Okay, Dimera. There are more details and I wanted to wait to tell you but we will discuss them now."
