Gray and White Kitten

She pounces,

practicing the angle.

She jumps vertically,

then creeps forward.

She backs away,

her dainty paws

batting viciously,

sometimes sheathed,

sometimes not.

Her tail whips.

Her ears twitch.

Her muscles clinch,

preparing, preparing.

At last she attacks.

The fight is short.

The victory is hers.

She drags her prize

with strutting pride,

having fought

her first major battle

with a stray feather

found clinging

to the screen.
