*For those who are clueless, Sideless Surcotes are dresses created in 14th century Italy, called "The Gates of Hell". They are loose-fitting, sleeveless gowns with wide sleeve holes down to the hips, under which were worn tight-fitting under dresses that showed off the female form. This was the first time that the female body could be seen through a woman's clothing (it was loose-fitting and meant to hide the female form before this) , which is why it was called "The Gates of Hell" because it was said that the Sideless Surcote would tempt men into lascivious ways. Here's a picture. http://www.merchantadventurers.com/medstock/mss411.jpg
They're much more comfortable than those blasted corsets.
