The Gift I Would Be Were I a gift, beneath the holiday tree, The Christmas dream of every child is what I'd like to be. Dreams of brand new shiny toys, of dollies made of bisque, Of bikes and trains and fun board games, like Monopoly and Risk. I'd be a happy home life; a dad who does not drink. I'd be the perfect mother, not one who hits before she thinks. I'd be a cupboard filled with food, to stave off pangs of hunger. I'd be security through the night, for my siblings, who are younger. I'd be care and tender kisses, in a box bound up with bows, Warm homes, respect, and caring, and love that grows and grows. I would be happiness for every child -- all colors and all races, Wrapped up in fragile wishes, and the joy of childrens' faces. End
