He was there in the midst of the struggle...

THE STRANGER (He Was There)

Children playing house
Just outside their home;
Someone came along
And took one of our own.

He was there,
Although we couldn't see
That what had happened
Was what was meant to be.

In the comfort of a friend,
In the tears of those who share
All the heartaches of the world,
He is there with love and care.

Lying in the street
With no blanket and no bed,
Fighting the cold within
In the morning found dead.

He was there,
Although we couldn't see
That what had happened
Was what was meant to be.

In the comfort of a friend,
In the tears of those who share
All the heartaches of the world,
He is there with love and care.

Somewhere on the battlefield
A soldier says a prayer
That they will make it home
No longer needed there.

Bombs and bullets ended
Lives of those young defenders;
Death did not hesitate
Or worry about the genders.

He was there,
Although we couldn't see
That what had happened
Was what was meant to be.

In the comfort of a friend,
In the tears of those who share
All the heartaches of the world,
He is there with love and care.

In the lonliness of night
When deep despair set in,
A life no longer needed
Commits a mortal sin.

And those that came upon them
Having to make right from wrong;
Shook their heads in wonder,
What happened to the song.

He was there,
Although we couldn't see
That what had happened
Was what was meant to be.

In the comfort of a friend,
In the tears of those who share
All the heartaches of the world,
He is there with love and care.

Alone, the aged lie in bed
Just waiting for the time
That the stranger will come
To take them across the line.

Old hearts wear out, but He
Can heal and make all things new;
They believe and they CAN see
The stranger shining through.

He was there,
Although we couldn't see,
That what had happened
Was what was meant to be.

In the comfort of a friend,
In the tears of those who share
All the heartaches of the world,
He is there with love and care.

The stranger walks among us,
Offering comfort and relief;
He doesn't cause the heartache
And He doesn't cause the grief.

Death is His sworn enemy,
For His is the shining light
Of hope for love eternally,
Of changing wrong to right.

We may not understand
Why He allows these things to be;
Sometimes we may not know
That He walks with you and me.

He takes the hand of those
Whose lives on earth are through,
Leads us with forgiveness,
To a better world, it's true!

He was there,
Although we couldn't see
That what had happened
Was what was meant to be.

In the comfort of a friend,
In the tears of those who share
All the heartaches of the world;
He is there with love and care.

"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers,
For thereby some have entertained
Angels, Unaware."
