I saw my foe across the street. He looked up in my direction. He knew who I was and why I was there. He had preyed on one too many innocent girls. It would end now.
He knew he would not be able to reveal his true nature. Neither would I. There were too many people on the street. For whatever reason, people in Washington don't take kindly to two men throwing bolts of fire or calling lightning down from the sky. So my kind have developed more subtle ways of resolving issues.
I opened my third eye, and saw him creating his defenses. His theme had always been barbed wire, razors and the like. His shields looked like a steel wall studded with spikes and blades. My construct would have to get through that. I built up my own defenses. Ethereal figures surrounded me, prepared to absorb the punishment my foes construct would try to inflict upon me.
He launched his construct upon me. It was a huge walking corpse wrapped in razor wire. His constructs were powerful, but they were not versitile. My specter shield buckled at the blows of the construct, but held firm. His showiness would be his undoing.
I set my construct loose. It was a tiny point of light to my eyes. Within that light was an ephemeral figure with gossamer wings, long flowing hair, and infinite beauty. The idea of Fairies had always enthralled me, and since I'd met several, I used their images as my envoys.
I sent my construct to find a way through my foes barrier, and then set my attention back to the attacking corpse. My specters were suffering horrible damage, and I would have to alter my defenses soon. I chose to ignite them and forge them into a wall of flame.
I timed this to occur as the corpse launched a two fisted blow at my shield. It hit the wall of solid fire instead and blazed. I saw my foe wince across the street, but he renewed his attack.
The great corpse began to spit out great gouts of black fluid that threated to douse my fire. I adapted my wall. It fell to the ground and liquified into a great ring of acid, which the beast could not cross. Then I set an earthen battlement around myself to protect from the thing's foul fluids.
It tried to cross the acid, but burned it's massive leg in the attempt. My foe, however, proved more adaptive than I had thought he would be. The creature's limbs melted and flowed into a glassy substance. The acid couldn't eat through the glass and it crossed my primary barrier. I conjured a stream of holy water to flow over the earthen ramparts I had constructed. That weakened the thing's attacks but it was only a matter of time before it broke through my defences.
Then, the thing screamed and collapsed and vansished back into the ether, mimicing the actions of its master. My foe clutched at his skull and fell to the ground. I could just make out my fairy warrior driving it's minute sword into him again and again. He was too preoccupied with the attack to notice my construct flutter over his wall.
I walked casually away. When checked, it would seem that my foe had died naturally of a stroke. His days of corrupting the youth of the city were over.
