How the mouse got his job on top of the clock

I would like to tell you a tale, if I may, about a very special little mouse. Why is this mouse so special? Well, I am glad you asked. If you would like to sit back and make yourself comfortable, I will share this story with you and let you decide what makes this mouse so special.

The little mouse in this story is blind and only has half a tail. Yes, you may have heard of him before. He and his brothers are quite well known in fact. But this is not the story of a mouse and his brothers, no, this is something completely different.

This story takes place after our special little mouse decided that there was more to life than running around, risking life and limb with his brothers. The only way for him to do this was to move out and find his own path in life.

The little mouse packed up his few belongings and headed out into the great big world known as Nursery Rhyme Land. Now, our special little mouse may be blind, however that didn't stop him from travelling all over the land in search of the perfect job.

While travelling, he ran into quite a few of his friends. He wasn't really surprised when something soft and woolly came running up to him. By touch, he could tell it was a sheep.

Heading in the direction that the sheep came from, he met up with Little Bo Peep, who was crying about her lost sheep. "Leave them alone, and they will come home," he told her, and with that he continued on his way.

It wasn't long before he heard a mighty crash. Knowing just what caused that noise, he moved to the other side of the wall and found Humpty Dumpty sitting on the ground, "Leave me," Humpty said "The King's men will be here soon."

"That's okay," the mouse said.

After feeling around a bit, he was able to do something the Kings' men couldn't do. He put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

By this time, it was getting very late in the afternoon, and he was beginning to feel hungry. Soon, he could smell something quite awful. Being as hungry as he was, he followed his nose until he came upon Miss Muffett. He asked Miss Muffett just what it was she was eating. Before Miss Muffett had the chance to answer, a spider dropped down and scared her away. Being a brave mouse, he wasn't at all scared of the spider. With a little spin of his half tail, he was able to cut the spider's web which sent the spider flying across the road. Realising the food would go to waste if he didn't eat it, he sat down and finished Miss Muffett's meal. After the first taste, he was able to tell what it was.

Our little mouse noticed by the chill in the air that it was getting rather late. But he didn't want to give in until he had found his job, so he continued walking late into the night. Sometime after midnight, he came upon an old clock. Wondering what the clock was doing, he ran up to the top. Not long after he got to the top the clock struck one, thinking it was his fault, he quickly ran down again. "What are you doing?" the old clock asked.

"I thought you chimed to get me to come down again," the little mouse said.

"No, I do that every hour," the clock told him.

The clock then realised it would be handy to have a little helper that could tell others why he was making these noises.

"Hey, little mouse, I don't suppose you are looking for a job?"

"Yes I am," the little mouse answered with a smile.

And with that our special little mouse settled back on top of the clock to wait for the next chime.
