A short poem about 'it'... Hopefully thought-provoking!

Husbands once held it over their wives.
Owners have it with a dog, less so a cat.
Some men crave it, seek it all their lives.
Others fear and avoid it, knowing that
it is difficult to wield it wisely and well.
With kings once it was absolutely absolute.
Its effect in Man produces many a sad tale,
for it can turn a reasonable man into a brute.
