I forgot what spring was like
In the longness of winter Forgot what color green was And the shapes and scents of flowers I forgot what summer was like In the vastness of spring Forgot the blaze of 100 degree heat And the cool refreshment of lake water I forgot what autumn was like In the peace of summer Forgot the sound of crisp leaves crunching And the clamor of schoolbells I forgot what winter was like In the coolness of autumn Forgot the chill of snow And the rush of sliding down a mountain And I forgot what spring was like, And summer, and autumn, for that matter, In the longness of the next, And let winter overtake me, And let ice and snow and white Possess my soul
