Shuttled Home
By Marilyn Mackenzie

The seven shuttled home today
Finding God’s peace in the clouds
As we are left to mourn and grieve
Whispering each name aloud

Names and faces once only known
By their closest friends and kin
Now represent both pride and pain
Of searching without and within

Seeing our world from high above
Proved God’s existence to them
Other flight crews said it was so
As they gazed at the moon and sun

What will it take for us to know
As we stand on Earth and gaze
At heavenly bodies up above
Wondering how they were made

There’s proof of God around us still
In petals and in drops of dew
We see His hand in people we love
In rainbows, in each golden hue

The sky proclaims it best, you see
In sunsets and clouds and rain
But so do people who show His love
As they comfort our every pain

Even though the seven are gone
No more to grace this great earth
Their deaths have joined us ever more
As their mysteries and ours are unearthed
