Last night I wished on a star
That you'd be here with me After all, it's the 13th (Not a Friday, but it's February, And just as unlucky) But the star didn't answer How could it? It's just some ball of gas Infinitely far and obcenely remote, Not able to respond No wonder you're nowhere to be found I'm wishing for a moon tonight, Because you'd see the same moon, And we'd be connected somehow But that, too, is just some rock Floating out in space, Never able to help me Some crazy sphere out in the universe As crazy as this sphere in which I live This dream In which you'd actually be here with me Tomorrow, or any day, In which the dreams are more than dreams And the stars are more than balls of gas And answer foolish prayers
