Prompt: You are a garbage can lid on a very windy day when suddenly the wind sets you free. Where do you go? What do you see? Who do you meet? (epistle)

1

A windy day, and Ralph never
Replaces me right; that hippie.

2

Gust fingers lift, here I go…
Crash, clang, and on my edge a-rolling.
Bye-bye, can.
I never liked him, anyway.

The world tumbles by, socks in a dryer.

3

My mother will be absolutely crushed
when she hears I’ve separated from my can.

(He was upper-crust, new-money.
That’s all she cared about).

4

I hear a rumble, and uh-oh, a car. No…worse!
A garbage truck, what irony as it
OW
Runs over me with right front tire.

5

Can it get any worse? I’m flattened
Like a penny on the rail, dirtier even
Than usual.

6

I’ll never fit any can now.
…Is what I’m thinking as I pout in the gutter.

7

Out of nowhere
I’m grasped by
A green, furry monster paw
And gently lifted for google-eyed inspection.

8

What a gorgeous wreck
Of a dirty garbage can lid!

Thinks Oscar as he carries me
Carefully down into his
Trashy abode.

9

O happy day, now I'm treasured,
Loved the right way for the first time
On Sesame Street!

...And I recieve the first of many
Furry, grouchy onion kisses.
