steadily the line crawls to the altar as one by one we tap ourselves in tax to drain our lives into a crimson decanter our shriveled husks strewn aside in stacks our cup spilling over in mounting fervor piled upon our plate with taint and tatter until at last a freeman's will should falter and none of our endless sacrifices matter
