IRRATIONAL HEART

I hate the way I feel tonight

So alone and filled with despair,

I know I need you in my life

Yet I'm pretending not to care.

You were the one who walked away
Without a backward glance,
On to some new conquest -
I didn't stand a chance!

I know I need you in my life

For a better person I could be;
Still my irrational heart wonders
Why you wanted to be free.

I will rise up from the ashes,
Everything will be all right.
No more heartache, no more tears;

I hate the way I feel tonight.
