LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

It may have been his winning smile
Or the sunlight in his eyes
That touched my heart that day
And soon made me realize

That my heart was swept away,
I was lost without a fight;
I never thought it would happen
But it was love at first sight!

His voice was soft and sensual,
And bore into my soul so fast
That my head and heart were spinning,
Oh, if only this could last!

I thought I'd been in love before,
This time I'd get it right!
He soon set my heart dancing;
True love at first sight!

His fingertips touched my lips
When I told him of my feeling;
He shook his head and kindly said,
Hold on, my mind is reeling.

He said I feel the same way, too,
But the timing wasn't right;
I'm just not ready for commitment,
Don't believe in love at first sight.

So like a wounded puppy dog,
{I wasn't really very bright)
I clung to him and cried;
For my heart said it was right.

He said he wanted friendship,
It was all that he could give;
All I wanted was his love
As long as I could live.

Months went by and soon I felt
A distance in his eyes;
I pretended it didn't matter,
But I didn't ever realize

That he did believe in love
And at first sight, it's true;
For he married someone else,
There was nothing I could do.

So now that he has walked away
And now that I have closed the door,
I find that time wounds all heels;
Somewhere out there is much more.

I still look into their eyes
In the stillness of the night,
I'll never stop believing
In love - at first sight.

Another time, another place;
I saw the smile upon your face
And in the stillness of the night.
I found another love at first sight.
