PUT IT IN WRITING

One of the things I've read about
In a book called "How To Survive"
Is that feelings and emotions
Are part of being really alive.

Sometimes just coping with life
Is just too hard for me to do,
And the only way I get it out is
Writing of the hurt, and anger too.

For if we let it stay inside,
It will fester and then spread,
And we will have crazy thoughts
Like we'd be "better off dead"

So I put it down on paper;
Sometimes stories, sometimes ryhme,
Then later on go back and read
About this life of mine.

We tend to focus on the hurt,
The words spoken in anger last!
Lashing out at anyone, anywhere,
Will not "even up" the past.

What happened many years ago
Can still come back to haunt;
Words that strike our souls
Can still come back to taunt.

It's important that we write
Of the good that's come around;
So that we can endure the pain
When the devil brings us down.

Write it down and get it out,
There's more to life than pain,
If you remember the good times
You'll survive a bit of rain.

God gives me, everyday,
The courage to go on -
Without him, I'd be lost;
I could not get along.

For people that you love the most
Can cut you to the quick and then,
You have the choice to fight back
Or write it down, and try again.

As you turn the journal pages,
And look back at what you've done;
You'll see changes through the years
Of the person you have become.

It's like looking in a mirror
That stretches back through time -
Morning thoughts and midnight talks,
All remembered, line by line.

Now you don't have to understand
Everything I've written down;
Part of me is trying to see
Why my world goes round and round.

There may be tears tomorrow
And maybe there'll be laughter;
Writing is the way for me
To see just what it is I'm after.

Write down your dreams, your goals,
And the good that's come your way;
We're here on earth for just a time,
It wasn't promised we could stay.
