I took my Bible out and turned to the book of Joshua. In the fourth chapter I found the story of the Children of Israel crossing the River Jordan. Joshua instructed them in how they were to cross. One of the requirements was that each tribe should appoint a man to take a stone from the bottom of the river bed and place the stones as a memorial on the bank after they had crossed.
In the future when the children asked "What do these stones mean?" they were to tell them the stories of God's dealing with them in the wilderness and the miracles that He wrought. This story reminded me that there were stories in my life of God's dealing, too. I need a memorial to remind me of His actions and His miracles. I need to tell someone about them. God wanted the Israelites of future generations to understand and know the events and lessons of the wilderness experience. The memorial was a method to ensure that. Maybe others can be inspired by what God has done in my life, too, but in my life right now the telling and remembering are mostly for me. I am in the midst of pain and fearsome demand. I need to know that God is with me. I need to remember that he has been with me on other occasions and His hand is not shortened nor his power diminished. I joined this group because I need some support and inspiration. If you hear me saying that God has blessed me, I hope it helps you. But do not be deceived: I am saying it so that I can remember and experience faith to deal with the circumstances in which I live.
