Tragedy
House fire and car accident affect same family.

A woman in our town lost everything in a house fire - only to lose her husband and grown son the very next day in a car accident. This is a poem I wrote for her:

On the way home from work one day,
I was going through town,
There were flames coming from a house,
And firemen were gathered around.

I said a little prayer,
That everyone was okay,
And gave a sigh of relief
When I knew you were out of harm's way.

The next day, once again,
I heard of a tragedy,
And when I found out it was you,
My prayers became a plea.

I’m asking God to help you,
Make it through each day,
And bless the lives of your children,
Each step along the way.

I cannot say I know
What you are going through,
But, I want you to know,
There are many mourning with you.

I do not know your family,
Only what God has placed in my heart,
And how I could comfort you,
I wouldn’t know where to start.

But, I will do my best to put into words,
The feelings that I feel,
I’ll pray that they touch you,
And help you to heal.

People who don’t know you,
Are praying for you today,
Asking God for answers,
To send your way.

The only thing I know,
Is that God can handle your pain,
He sent his son to die,
So that we might live again.

And you can yell and curse him,
And give him all of your grief,
He can handle all of your anger,
He just wants your belief.

I will continue praying
For strength on your behalf,
Hoping that someday soon,
You’ll again be able to laugh.

I will pray for your children,
And your granddaughter, too,
So no matter what you all will face,
That God will pull you through.
