My Dictionary of the Future defines “Post-Classic culture” as a period when “the goal is to catch fire and flame out, leaving nothing substantial behind in a gesture of complete combustion.”
In my opinion writers as a group want to leave evidence of their craft. We would like for people to be exploring our material for a long time. We, mostly, want to become a classic, to be remembered. I find many authors want to be avant-garde. I appreciate innovation and creativity, but there are limits. Ignoring grammar, spelling and structure in prose or poetry in order to be unfettered or free is likely to guarantee a talented writer a post-classic end. Rule # 1: Writing is hard work. Drama writing is harder work. Edit, rewrite, correct and edit again. The result is better writing. Write on. Come Fly with Me--Kiter
