A Cheer For Nothing

I've walked alone in darkness
And had my share of grief and pain.
I've felt the fire that wouldn't burn,
I've faced the wind and seen the rain.

I've stood and watched the battle,
I've stood and watched them die,
To move was something I couldn't do
While frozen staring eye to eye.

I never thought that I would stay,
To leave was what I wanted most.
But how can I depart this place,
If I'm nothing but a ghost.

Not really here, but will always see,
Their pain and hear their screams.
I now remain unfeeling
With burdens gone unseen.

Long I have awaited help
But was forsaken at the most,
For the only thing I thought of
Was how do you help a ghost?

So when you gather 'round the table,
Just raise your glass in toast.
Cheer for completely nothing,
And honor all your ghosts.
