Red Ribbons
Hitting the wall.. trying to bounce back

long, dark alleyway,
highway, runway
leading me nowhere,
everywhere,
anywhere but here.
turn left no, right
in circles,
maybe not.

streetlights strobing past me
shining glass as diamonds
in the macadam.
Diamonds in the rough
or glass to shred,
ribbons of red
fluttering from my
heart
like some macabre
maypole.

maybe I'll head south and south again
where the sun shines fiercely
beating down on my shoulders
burning the darkness out of me,
striped red like the sign
from that bar, screaming neon
at me;
calling me, shouting out loud.
Drown it out or
it drowns me
in neon darkness,
while red, red ribbons
flutter to a carpet of
glittering diamonds.
